Stow your wheels in style.

Regardless of whether you ride a carbon superbike or a steel townie, well designed bike storage is essential for keeping your bikes organized and safe, and also for taking full advantage of the space you have.

From simple hooks to multi-bike towers to the more sophisticated hanging systems, bicycle storage options are plentiful. So, whatever space and situation you have, there’s no excuse for shoving your beloved bike in the corner of the garage hoping you won’t run over it with the car.

Given the copious bike storage choices, there’s also a wide range of prices to suit any budget. The rubber-coated hook that has humbly served in countless garages is still a viable solution for some. For just a few bucks, you can keep your bikes out of harm's way and clear up valuable floor space.

At the other end of the price spectrum, costing hundreds of dollars, are attractive racks with all the accouterments for storing helmets and shoes—perfect for that boutique look in your loft or living room.

Before you purchase a rack, consider the amount of space you can dedicate to storage and the number of bikes (and gear) you hope to store. Also, the construction of your walls can influence the style of rack you may want to invest in: Do you have wood or metal studs, or are your walls concrete? Here's what to look for with bike storage.

How many bikes do you have? Our selection includes storage racks that can store between one and six bikes each. If you have a larger collection to accommodate, you can always double up. If you're working with a small space, opt for a one- or two-bike rack to keep the rest of your space open for other gear and accessories.

Consider where you want to store your bike or bikes. Do you have enough floor space to use a rack that sits on the ground, or does it make more sense to hang the bikes by their wheels? If you choose a wall-mounted rack, make sure you have space to fit your bike horizontally, which can turn your bike into wall art, or vertically, which may be less aesthetically pleasing but takes up less wall space.

Some of our bike racks require special tools to assemble them and others come almost completely ready to go. We've noted below when you'll need to assemble a rack yourself and when they come pre-assembled.

For these bike storage recommendations, I considered ease of assembly, quality of materials, price, and capacity. I also relied on the previous research done by writer Kathleen Willcox. In total, hundreds of bike storage solutions were evaluated and thousands of consumer reviews were considered to find the best designed and highest quality bike storage racks on the market. The variety of options here can help ensure that your collection of bikes will be safe, secure, and stored in style. These are the best bike storage solutions available now.

Customers love this rack, and it’s easy to see why. This heavy-duty stainless steel bike rack comes with two types of screws enabling you to easily mount it on brick, drywall, or wood stud walls.

The rack is simple to install and doesn’t require assembly. To use, just insert the pedal of the bike into the rack's suspension mechanism and go. Mounting and detaching takes only moment—just lift the bike off and you're ready to ride.

The bike rack—compatible with road, mountain, and hybrid bikes—is unobtrusive and gets your bike out of your way quickly and easily. The stylish “smile” design adds a flash of whimsy.

If you and your entire crew need somewhere to store your bikes, check out this Ultrawall rack. The bike rack can accommodate up to six bicycles, holding up to 300 pounds in total. You can customize the rail to fit your space, and its sturdy safety-hook design ensures that the mount will stay stable and won’t release.

The bike storage hooks attach to a storage rail, which is easy to install on any wall. The heavy-duty mounting hardware (including a screw and expansion tube) is included, and the rack is mountable on drywall, brick, or on wood stud walls.

This StoreYourBoard solution holds up to five bikes, with a shelf above that's perfect for storing helmets, shoes, bags, and more. The rack accommodates mountain, road, and hybrid bikes with 45 mounting slots that enable customizable spacing. The attachment positions are easy to shift to fit in bigger bikes, or ones with oversized handlebars.

Made of industrial-grade steel, this rack is built to last. It also has a compact, space-saving design, which is a big win in garages and basements—no more tripping over your family’s bikes.

Feel like you have zero space to mount bikes or you don’t relish the idea of putting holes in your wall? This Delta leaning floor stand is a great pick.

The stand design allows you to mount two bikes, supporting up to 80 pounds in total. The durable steel construction is built to last, and the rubberized feet prevent scuffing on the floor. The hassle-free assembly requires minimal effort and expertise to install; hardware and a wall strap are included, and the only other tool you'll need is a screwdriver.

The company is based in the U.S., designing and manufacturing racks right in Virginia.

This freestanding bike rack is a great option for anyone who has the floor space to devote to storing their rides. The rack easily holds two bikes and a total weight of 100 pounds. The tilting cradles are completely adjustable, making them great for big bikes with sloping tubes and/or aggressive frame geometries. The powder-coated heavy-duty steel is built to last, and the rack comes with a lifetime warranty.

This Velo Column floor-to-ceiling rack offers an elegant solution to bike storage—and is perfect if you want to keep those two-wheeled beauties on display. The sleek storage unit sports soft rubber cradles that will protect your bicycle’s finish, and it's suitable for road, mountain, hybrid, and electric bikes. The rack is also moveable as needed and comes with a 3-year warranty.

This powder-coated alloy steel standing bike rack is great for households with multiple bikers. This one will hold and organize up to five bikes of all sizes, is easy to assemble, and is adjustable. The steel resin is weather-resistant, and ideal for damp, mildewy conditions. This rack will work well in basements, and for those who don’t want a complicated assembly to contend with.

This bike hook can be mounted on your wall or installed in your ceiling. The design is simple and straightforward, the unit is very strong, and the price is unbeatable. While it does require precise installation, doing so is relatively easy, and this option is a frequently recommended choice at pro shops.

Give your bike the showroom treatment with the Rakk stand. I’ve been using the Rakk for over a decade and, because the freestanding rack is so portable and light, I’ll move it from the garage to the basement and back again—wherever I need to park my bikes. Sometimes I’ll even fold it up and bring it to races or trailheads for easy bike prep in style.

You can store your 20-inch BMX bike just as easily as your 29er (up to 2.25 inches)—with the front or rear wheel. If you have more than one bike, the racks can be linked together with the included metal clips.

Finally, since the rack holds the tire, your expensive frame will never come in contact with rubberized arms or metal hardware.

Unless your child is so young that you don’t want them to have unsupervised access, then a floor rack like Woom’s Dock allows kids to have the freedom to ride—without needing assistance from mom or dad.

Small, compact, and inexpensive, the Dock does everything it should and nothing more. It easily folds down and can be stored out of the way when not in use. The stand fits 12- to 14-inch wheel sizes.

For those without a garage, this Suncast shed will securely store your bikes out of the weather. The steel-reinforced plastic resin construction requires minimal maintenance—it’s UV and weather resistant, won’t fade over time, and it’s easy to clean.

It can store two adult bikes and two smaller kids’ bikes, and hydraulic pistons assist in lifting the lid for easy access.

PM: What non-permanent style do you recommend for apartments?

CC: A freestanding floor rack like Feedback Sports’ Rakk is ideal for apartments and where no assembly or mounting are required. Because this style is lightweight and modular, this rack can be easily moved out of the living room when your friends visit.

PM: Where do you store your bike?

CC: I store most of my bikes (yes, there are a lot of bikes in my family) in the garage so I can easily take them out for a spin or tune them at my workbench. One or two bikes are usually kept in the basement for indoor riding in the winter.

PM: Do e-bikes require different storage options than non e-bikes?

CC: The short answer is sometimes. The biggest difference between most e-bikes and regular bikes is the weight. Because of this, there are two considerations: First, make sure the rack can support the weight of the bike(s). Most hooks won’t.

Second, if you’re looking at a tower style rack, make sure you are able to lift the bike in order to place it on the arms. Some e-bikes have step-through frames, which makes it challenging to store the bike on a rack that supports the top tube.
